Week 12: The Nursery, Part 1

Well this was/will be a multi-week project.  The goal this week was to finish the painting/carpeting/etc so that we could get furniture and "stuff" moved in.  We did that and also managed to get the crib and dresser put together.  We got all of baby's "stuff" moved in from the guest room (and other various rooms it had begun to accumulate) and got it all organized!  We are still waiting on the glider and the changing table before we can decide on exact furniture placement and therefore decorate, but that will hopefully happen this week.  In the mean time, the closet, book case, and dresser are all organized and ready to go!  Most of the changing table items are also organized and ready to go when the changing table gets here.  Hopefully next week we can put the final touches on the room, decorate, etc!

We opted to take out the clothes bar in the closet and put in these two shelving units that we'd purchased previously.  It gives us a lot more storage for her stuff, as well as use a few shelves for our (Chet's) stuff.  The bottom three shelves on the left is ours/will be ours.  The rest is hers!  Down the road when she has more clothes that need hung, we'll re-evaluate and maybe take one shelving unit out.

A lot of the stuff being stored in here now are things that we aren't using yet (bumbo, breast pump, bouncer, jumperoo, etc).  In the pink bins are additional crib bedding items, shoes, and nursing supplies.

In the three drawer unit I have larger size clothes.  The first drawer is 6 months, the second drawer is 9 months and up, and the third drawer is holiday clothing.  To the right, I still found a place to hang the few items she has that *need* to be hung up.

Blankets and those pink bins, previously mentioned.

The dresser has four drawers.  The top drawer is baby legs, hats, hair bows, mittens, and socks/booties.  If we find it gets too messy, I'll add plastic bins or dividers to separate things.

The second drawer is all our newborn size items.  Long sleeve kimono style shirts, pants, outfits, short sleeve onesies, long sleeve onesies, and sleepers.

Third and fourth drawer are all 0-3 months stuff.  Two stacks of onesies, onesies that go with specific pants, pants, and shorts.

Outfits and sleepers.

The book case has all of her books, plus four empty bins for things I'm sure will need storage later, and one bin for toys and one bin for burp clothes/pacifiers/etc.

Toys!

Our cloth diapers (not yet prepped), cloth wipes, and medicine-y stuff for the changing table when we get it.

Week 11: The Front Closet

This week's project was a relatively easy/quick one, but a much needed one.  The more stuff we threw in that closet as we moved in and found more stuff, the less organized it became.  We also didn't have enough bins for winter stuff like hats, scarves, gloves, etc.  And we had too many items in there that we were no longer using.  On the top shelf we now have a bin for my purses, a bin for gloves/mittens, a bin for hats/ear muffs, and a bin for scarves.  In the hanging shoe racks I tried to organize the shoes by type and owner to make them easier to put back in the right spot (my work shoes, chet's work shoes...my sandals, chet's sandals, my tennis shoes, chet's tennis shoes...and so on).  The bottom crate is canvas bags.  In addition to dirt, I also cleared out a pretty big pile of no longer needed stuff for the summer garage sale (purses, shoes, etc).  Week 11:  COMPLETE.  Now on to week 12, which is our big project that we actually began in week 11... THE NURSERY!

Week 10: Clearing out the Nursery and a few odds and ends

This week our goal was to find a home for the rest of the crap in what will be the nursery...and organize our computer/electronics bin.  The bin consisted of one giant clump of cords, and a bunch of CDs and other random stuff that we could never find when we needed.

We also managed to find homes for the rest of the stuff in the future nursery.  Much of the stuff has been part of previous weeks' organizational projects, as you've seen...but we still had some last odds and ends.  We will be keeping one shelf in the closet in the nursery with a few items.  We moved more long term storage stuff and household decorations  not currently being used to the basement.  We added a new bookshelf to our bedroom for baseball and civil war books.  We moved antique books to the living room in two different places.

Week 9: Picture Frames!

I am lazy to commit to which pictures/artwork I want in which frames.  I've had some frames hung with no pictures for more than a year or two.  It was time to decide what went in them, print them, and get it done!  It feels good :)  One has pictures from a genealogy trip my mom and I took about four years ago, one set has family pictures of our parents, grandparents, and great grandparents, one set has some of our wedding pictures in it, one set was made with scrapbook paper to be a weekly calendar, and the big one has maps in it for artwork.  Done!
